VAWA = Violence Against Women Act of 1994
Republicans chose to vote against a renewal of the act, created their “own” version, leaving several affected segments out of the realm of protection. Purpose? Just to flex a little (‽‽‽‽) political muscle. A partisan move, really.
So what else is new, right‽‽‽

The republicans have their heads up their butts. That’s one awesome graphic! 😀
You are too kind, my friend… all the credit goes to ThinkProgress.org!!!

Thanks for the info B-Kat. It is so important to stay informed.
That said, I believe we need to tread lightly as the political battle lines are drawn. I am meeting women so quick to defend their position they can sometimes go blind, become deaf to the bigger picture. There are thousands of republican women. That they feel differently about certain things than I do, does not mean they are wrong and I am right. Perhaps we are all wrong, and right. Women need to listen to each other. If one feels abortion is wrong, birth control offends them, well they too are women, on the planet, in this country, and their voice, views, feelings matter. Perhaps they might even have some wisdom we miss when we immediately see them as wrong, ignorant, controlled out of their own mind and hearts. What if they really do believe what they say they do? What is their men have nothing to do with it?
These are just some of the thoughts that are coming into my mind as I observe the political ping pong game.
You know it, AI…
what really gets me is, indeed, what do men have to do with it, when it comes to a woman’s choices!?!?!?
even though I don’t want to see someone’s choices taken away, if they choose to give them up, that, in itself, is a choice!!!

Amen!!!
And the right to make that choice is KEY. As that it what this country is all about!

Damn straight!!!

As long as the business people at the top are in charge of the Government nothing will change.
it is most sad, when greed is the motivation for all we do…

Agreed. Good info.
What worries me is that these bills are so long and complicated that who knows what is specifically in them – and the implications.
I would really like ALL bills to have to be stated in simple language with only one issue/item per bill. If each elected official had to vote yes or no on each separate item/bill then people who know exactly what the person stands for – and who the idiots are – and vote them out on their voting record. Might reduce the “politics” and behind the scenes political compromises. (both parties)
And no excuses for not voting. You were elected, you have to vote on EVERY bill and have your position revealed to the public.
Tired of all the back room deals and hiding politicians who will do /say anything/ bend to lobbyists just to stay in office.
Yeah, term limits, too.
You got that right!!!
Unfortunately, that’s exactly what they do – bury some completely unrelated gun law, let’s say, in an abortion bill. Or other some such nonsense. I’d bet that’s how half of the stupid laws on the books got there in the first place!!!
Just read this morning that the whole election, this year, is about the GOP keeping their 8 or so head count advantage in the House, so they can bipartisan everything all through the next 4 years, so nothing gets done. How stupid is that!?!?!?
