This video is here to demonstrate that the TSA’s insistence that the nude body scanner program is effective and necessary is nothing but a fraud, just like their claims that the program is safe (radiation what?) and non-invasive (nude pictures who?). The scanners are now effectively worthless, as anyone can beat them with virtually no effort. The TSA has been provided this video in advance of it being made public to give them an opportunity to turn off the scanners and revert to the metal detectors. I personally believe they now have no choice but to turn them off.

Please share this video with your family, friends, and most importantly, elected officials in federal government. Make sure they understand that your vote is contingent on them fixing the abuse that 200,000 passengers face from the TSA on a daily basis.

hmmmmm… let’s see…. (what) should I say/respond to cruelanimal’s 9/5/11 comment RE my 8/29/11 comment to Tim’s 8/25/11 post RE Kerry Mitchell’s 1999 posting of The Fractal Manifesto… hmmmmmm…

first draft…
so, it seems you (the royal you) OT folks use a certain style in your comments/posts:
blog blah blog blah…
open quote (add an out of context partial quote from someone’s comment) no end quote
reply blog blah reply blah blog

ok, repeat this formula a few times to a few more commenters (adding lots of links to keep the reader confused, jumping from link to non sequitur link – til they get confused from trying to understand you a little better by following all these links, so as to create an informed opinion, maybe comment back in an attempt at intelligent discourse, debate, whatever you want to call it)…
sprinkle in a few mean spirited phrases that imply a particular commenter has a few loose screws or they are confused, or just to be a bully cause you can – after all it’s your blog and who invited them anyway… oh, and of course, accuse a commenter they are unfocused and don’t know how to reply if they don’t adopt your specific formulae/styles… that’s it – leave ’em feeling stupid, incompetent, certainly not worth your time, but wtf, you want to hurt someone’s feelings so you will allow their comment through so you can abuse it/them further… how big of you…
or maybe you try to embarrass them by posting a couple images from one of their galleries that appear to prove your point, ie all fractals look alike no matter what app is used, and, btw, choose examples from the person’s oldest posts, surely not to be their best crafted pieces, so you can be sure to say that…
I (being the commenter referred to directly above) might have then, left a brief comment directed to Terry’s repost to my comment, but I’d sort of lost the emotional compulsion or need to do so… I mean, if I go to OT, it’s an away game, definitely a disadvantage to me… and I don’t care to be bashed or ignored which is probably what would happen…
well, I guess that would fit in quite well with what Tim and Terry often use to stir up the nest, anger the natives and push buttons such that the same kind of games continue…

so I took a peek at cruelanimal’s sites and for curiosity, I began looking beyond OT, found Terry’s sites, art, blogs, links, personal art philosophies and was impressed with the depth of resources he provides without bias, except RE his own work, for which he should have every right to make any comment he likes, dis or praise, etc… actually, I found Terry’s humor pleasant and sardonic, his poetry interesting, possibly that of a boomer age protestor now grown up, still angry, possibly in a less optimistic voice than he would have used a few decades ago… certainly not as angry as the screaming musicians today who may or may not use actual words…

and then, the day already shot, I flew through Tim’s other stuff – very interesting Sterlingware(2) works…

thanks to you both for all the resources and links which I don’t have b’marked on this laptop yet… saved me a little work, so I guess the day wasn’t wasted, just gone, all of a sudden…

I kind of wanted to retort to Terry about his using 2 of my oldest/earliest/least skilled images and suggest he at least take a peak at some newer stuff like Nirvana (FSK, like Allelujah) or Rumschpringe (Apo, like Crossroad), or maybe even Crossroads… (FE, similar name to Apo he referenced) and review them as to growth and development of the artist in using tools… but that would just be self serving whining, so I won’t do that… I’ll just do it here, so I feel better and it’s my blog, so I can…

bk over and out…

fractals as art?

The “Orbit Trap” http://orbittrap.ca/?p=2889 is an apparently anti-fractal-as-art blog… on this particular post, the author(s) seem to rag on a piece by fractal master, Kerry Mitchell, “The Fractal Art Manifesto” which was published in 1999 https://www.fractalus.com/info/manifesto.htm
so… I’ve only recently become aware of this blog, and in fact I had not before read the entire “Manifesto” until this latest post of “OT”… I was rather stunned by the look-down-your-nose attitude expressed in this blog… I mean, who cares if you like fractals, or think of them as art… however, this one moved me to respond, and so I did… though it is not necessary for you to have read either of the above docs, it might be helpful just to scan “OT”, so as to understand my counterpoints…

Buddha Kat says on 8/26/11:
it seems to me your ability to “listen” is severely limited by your inflated opinion of yourself, ie your knowledge of and openness to the evolution of, in this case, art… are you an “artist”? if so, may I see some of your “works” of art? I hope you don’t mean to pass this fractal bashing blog thingy as art… but if you do, so be it…
being able to fine tune a fractal, be it with the fractal generator itself, or with other graphic editing apps, is the heart of the art, the soul of the artist… a fractal artist may or may not fully grasp the math or the programming of the app and yet, that same artist can create evocative, powerful compositions, enhanced by their own choices – of balance or imbalance, which, in fact, the computer will not always “fix”, of light and dark, highlighting and shadow, again as defined by the artist’s intent and hand to effect mood or emotion, of color palettes that mesh, clash or even collide with visual cacophony, if that is the choice of the artist – in any of the fractal generators that truly allow the user to exercise artistic manipulation, over and above what the fractal generator app “suggests”… these programs are not the boss, just as MS Word or Corel WordPerfect are the not boss of any writer who chooses to produce a masterpiece novel to a lovely haiku to a personally opinionated blog… perhaps you should try something other than “Flame Painter”, or the built in fractalizer effects of many popular graphic editing applications to expand your horizons… (I hesitate to name even these simple tools, as they too, can be the inspiring beginning from which a true fractal artist evolves, or no)t… there are simple fractal “makers” and there are complex ones… the more complex, the more control the artist has in the creative process… as in any art form, the tool does not make the art, the heart, soul, eye, ear, drive of the artist using the tool creates the art…
and just so you know, art is as much a journey of exploration, artists seeking to understand the tools at their disposal, as it is a controlled use of the subtleties of the tools they discover and use to express their artistic energy…

and now I hear you say that a “fractal” is not real, like a tree or a person, or perhaps a coastline… have you ever viewed a satellite view of a coastline, eg, that is a fractal in its “real” state/nature, the math, the iterations of self similar shapes, some of which a photographer might seek to “capture” in his art…

I wonder about the implication of your statement that it easier to tell what program, rather than what artist made a particular piece… well, that may be so to an eye untrained in the art of fractals… I admit, it can be so, but what a delight it is to recognize the artist, thinking the piece was made in one program, when in fact it was made in another… being able to recognize the medium is not an insult or in any way make the creator less of an artist… I can tell when a piece is a photograph more often than I can tell who the photographer is…

in closing, may I just say that whether or not you (what is your name again?) consider me (a fractal/graphic/visual artist) an artist, is of no consequence to me, as I will continue to create and share what I feel to be stimulating or evocative or even boring to someone else who may view my art… certainly, not everyone is going to like my art, or even think of it as art… much of what I view I may not like, but I do not insist it is not art, just because I don’t like or “get” it… same with much of what I read, or hear, et al…

art is not based on how much money you make with it, how well known you are for it or how well known your art is… art is the creative outlet we (humans) have come to name some of our compulsions, obsessions, desires, wants, needs, et al to express/communicate with those outside of ourselves… and every viewer/”receiver”, as Kerry says, has as much of a freedom to like or not, view or not, and criticize or not… but no one has the right to tell me I am wrong to describe/define what I consider to be art, art…

artists have feelings too…
__________________________________________________________________________

in the end, I’m glad I spoke up… I expressed what I was feeling in an appropriate manner felt good about putting myself out there for criticism…

that is all….

ahhhh… yes…. Nancy, my friend… this is in the top of “reasons” (not that any are needed) that you are one of my dearest friends… you have a deep integrity that compels you to seek and share truth, non-biased, as in not an agenda pusher, yet fully biased, as in know the facts of all “sides” in any/every issue… I treasure your shared links, knowing I am not about to be preached at, converted by, pointed toward an agenda, but respected with truth and full media disclosure of reality, sought, rather than full media buzzwords, carefully selected to entice “validation” or “trust” as “reality”, fed to passivists, to perpetuate/encourage passiveness, whose loyalty and support are easily gained and maintained by more of the same…

one of my own sisters is, in fact, evangelical, to the point that she has told me I will go to hell if I do not “convert”… not only that, because she “loves” me and “cares what happens” to me, she is compelled to continue her conversion energy…, even having been advised that is a boundary I prefer and my clearly defining this boundary, she persists, again, because “she cares” about what I am facing, because, of course, she knows she is right and whatever I believe, she is obligated to sway me from eternal “suffering”, even, apparently, if is my own choice… and this is worrisome to me, as well, on any level that anyone or any group is motivated by such ideas… and that they claim to be powered by the sacred word “god”… an arrogance, imho, to claim to speak for their sacred “god”…

even as response to my unaware/robotic spewing some of the same buzzwords, that, in fact, do NOT say what I truly mean to say, rather act as political/social cartoonery to feed a type of prejudicious imagery I truly deplore, your sharing helps me remember to be the thinking person I am… I am blessed to have friends like you…

I hope you don’t mind that I frequently share your links in the same effort to encourage active seeking of full disclosure truth, rather than passive acceptance of non to partial truths that are easily available to those who choose not, or forget, to be the active thinking beings we are…

this is the way the Sunday “paper reading” ritual can best promote survival of our species… I see little hope along most other paths… you know, it is a little like attending a “church service” that focuses on knowledge, respect, truth, friendship… or, as I often say, peace, love, laughter and health…

now THIS is summer… waking from a full fledged sleep, windows open, me beneath the sheet, yet knowing the day will be sunny and bright and oh so comfortable…

thanks for being an angel of a friend… I am more in touch with my “higher self” when basking in your energy…

namaste to all you girls from all us girls… (as mama perches comfortably, certain I see her, atop my latest “acquisition” – a new purse – to establish her ownership of same)
🙂
