FRESHLY POLISHED FRACTALS

Work, work, work… and when I’m not doing that, I be battling one health issue or another. And that’s why you haven’t seen me around for a while… and man, that time can get away from you! First it’s a few days, then a week or two, morphing into a month, then before you know it it’s been months, the year’s on its last legs. And here I am wondering where I’ve been and what I’ve accomplished!

Truth is, I have been spending almost all my time making and posting products for my Cafe Press and Zazzle stores. Rather tedious, but, honestly, I do like doing it. I have about 600 products (so far) in my Cafe Press store. And that’s making each product separately, on its own, then posting. Now’s the time to do it – the shopping season is short this year, so I’ll be continuing this marathon for at least a few more weeks. I consider the higher volume of products the better. And it’s very cool that one can post products for sale for no money up front!

One of the things I really enjoy about Cafe Press is the various types of products one can create. I’ve made curtains (60″ x 84″) 5×7 area rugs, pillows galore, beach towels and shower curtains . I can vouch for the quality of the last two – I ordered both a shower curtain and a beach towel and was delighted. Yes, more pricey that your regular Target shower curtain or beach towel, but the uniqueness of designs is well worth it!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Black Friday and your fill of football for the weekend! Whatever was your pleasure, may it keep you full of warm memories to last a very long time.

I really don’t even know what’s been going on in the world – I’ve cocooned myself away here, nose to the keyboard – like I said work, work, work.

I did take a short break to see Elton John in concert. What an amazing man who sure seems like he enjoys himself up there on stage and interacting with his very faithful audiences. He and his crew were onstage for almost 3 hours, of solid floor shaking rock and roll, Elton style.

This is about the longest I’ve allowed myself away from filling my shops, so I guess I better get back to work. But first, let’s see what we can find in the way for fractals for your viewing pleasure…

love to you all…

X is for XAOS

Day 24 of the April 2013 AtoZ Challenge… enjoy…

In my excitement, I may have forgotten to mention my theme – it is fractals, fractal art, everything fractal up to and including my new book Fractal Dreams! Have a look around my pages and such to see lots more fractals. Also, every Friday I post a FridayFractalFeature (fff, for short) for all to enjoy! Thanks for stopping by and engaging in the A to Z 2013 Challenge! This is my FIRST ever, so I’m pretty excited! So every day I will post a fractal whose title starts with the letter of the day… and perhaps other things fractal related.

X is for….

XaoS is an interactive fractal zoomer program. It allows the user to continuously zoom in or out of a fractal in real-time.

XaoS is licenced under GPL. The program is cross-platform, and is available for a variety of operating systems.
I know there’s a lot more to Xaos, but I really don’t understand it. I do know Xaos is a way of connecting properties of various transforms in a fractal to create different aspects of interaction and color.
the fractal for X is: XAOS AND I

YAAAAAY!!! We are EARLY  today!!!

Guess you’ve probably all heard of the April 2013 A to Z Challenge starting up soon now… if you’re interested to participate, just click the link to the top right to get instructions and how-to’s…

As you are also aware, I’m building around a fractal theme… I’m afraid I’ll run out of words that relate to fractals – you know like Chaos Theory, Benoit B Mandelbrot, et al… if any of you have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to offer any ideas you come up with… I know I can come up with fractals titled using all letters of the alphabet, but I’m already struggling to keep the related words section from looking puny… any help I get will be appreciated AND credited! I’ll also include fractalists whose username’s fit the alphabetical bill… I hope to get lots of exposure for many more than just myself on this project, so bury your shyness, show your pride and let me know if you want me to include your username and link to your work. (Don’t worry, Red, you’re covered!) I already have a few, but I’m bound to forget someone at the appropriate letter! This old brain seems less able to retain and bring back stuff like that a lot more these days! (The tip of my tongue is filled with just such memories, unfortunately, I can’t see the tip of my tongue!) Leave and suggestions in the comments here or on this page: Fractals, Fractals, Fractals

So, on with the show, shall we…? One of my better sets, if I do say so myself… *blush blush*

First, from this Friday Fractalist…

Good day, fellow fractal lovers…

How goeth your Friday so far?

Just a little sharing, ok? I’ve never had the joyful experience of child raising, except perhaps way back in the days of my adolescence, when my family began to fracture and I became parent-in-training to all 8 of my younger siblings. So, when a child left home for their first day of school, or to get a place of their own, or to go to college or get married – that was not part of my job as ersatz parent, or at least I didn’t really go through the deep emotions an actual parent must upon seeing their offspring take out on their own, to make their place in the world and make their mark.

Why on earth would I be bringing this up, then, since I’ve not experienced it? Well, truth is, I AM experiencing it now as I hold onto my (nearly) finished book, at least the important part, the body of it that has all my (children) fractals and their titles in it. I am having separation anxiety. But I keep reminding myself, I can’t hold on to my “kids” forever! Hard as it may be, I WILL be sending it off to my publisher, soon. There will still be details, like the ForeWord and AfterWord content, covers, etc, but though I do want them to be just right, I don’t foresee any hesitance in letting them go, knowing they will be out there to enhance the life of my dear creations. I put my heart and soul into the creation of each and every fractal I create.

They are a part of me. Sooner and sooner, now, they will be going off on their own, taking the chance of standing on their own credit and making the world a better place. OK. I’m done!

And thanks for (listening) reading. Everyone who has seen my fractals has also become a part of them, of me, so I just wanted to share. Thanks!!!

OK, then, back to our regular Friday feature…

Fractal Friday it is…

g’day, all… hoping it is for all, anyway…

today’s fractal offerings are again of my own creation… these were all made from the same fractal software: Fractal Explorer… the best thing about Fractal Explorer is that it is FREEWARE and OPEN SOURCE…  next best could be any of many reasons… there are lots and lots of fractals already in FE and way lots of ways that one can manipulate/change/create very original and pretty cool myriads more fractals… then, there is also a a place where you can download public domain fractal files (known as parameters, or in FE, Spot files), palettes and so much more… careful, though… it is highly addictive…

so, without further ado… tadaaaaa…    SACRED ROYAL TOTEM

Fractal Explorer

What are fractals?

Fractal is a term which was coined by Benoît Mandelbrot. It refers to a certain group of shapes and objects. But how to define fractals?

Fractals are natural or artificial structures wich offer a high level of scale invariance or self-similarity.

Scale invariance relating to fractals means that the scale is not important for the result. Structures which are scale invariant can be observed from different distances but the object always looks the same.

Self similarity means that parts of the object are self similar (they contain parts of themself). Self similar structures contain parts which are similar to themselves. It is even possible that the whole sturcutre can be found within the object (i.e. Mandelbrot Set).

Because of these two attributes very complex structures can be reduced to simple rules when they are recognized as fractals.

Examples for natural fractales are:

Examples for artificial fractals are:

After understanding the beauty of fractals you will always try to find fractal structures in your environment. And you will find them. Fractals are more than just a mathematical theory to describe certain things. Fractals are the answer to so many different questions.

By the way:

In 1997 Arthur Clarke made a recommendable documentary about fractals called “Fractals: The Colors of Infinity”:

this is part 1 of 6 of the Arthur C. Clarke documentary which can be seen in full (about an hour) here… I’ll post each of the six you tube parts of this over the next 5 (more) Fridays, in case you want your documentaries in small doses…
