R is for… RUMSPRINGE

Day 18 of the April 2013 AtoZ Challenge… enjoy…

I may have forgotten to mention my theme – it is fractals, fractal art, everything fractal up to and including my new book Fractal Dreams! Have a look around my pages and such to see lots more fractals. Also, every Friday I post a FridayFractalFeature (fff, for short) for all to enjoy! Thanks for stopping by and engaging in the A to Z 2013 Challenge! This is my FIRST ever, so I’m pretty excited! So every day I will post a fractal whose title starts with the letter of the day… and perhaps other things fractal related.

Friday Fun for FractalPhiles

Greetings, fellow fractalphiles…

Have you been enjoying the Z to Z Challenge for April 2013? We are just past the halfway mark and we’re still going strong! Check every day for my fractal posts, now to include links to other awesome #atozchallenge participants… I’m having a ball – so far I haven’t got the feeling anyone is tired of seeing my fractals… and if you are, not to worry just a week and a few days, then we’ll return to our regularly scheduled FridayFractalFeatures… unless…?

For our musical diversion today I found some oldies, but real goodies…

I got carried away on the music there for a while… that’s some goooooood jammin’, eh!?!??!? I forgot to breathe during the damn drum solo…

Day 13 of the April 2013 A to Z Challenge…

I may have forgotten to mention my theme – it is fractals, fractal art, everything fractal up to and including my new book Fractal Dreams! Have a look around my pages and such to see lots more fractals. Also, every Friday I post a FridayFractalFeature (fff, for short) for all to enjoy! M is for….
MANDELBROT – Benoit B Mandelbrot (November 20, 1924 – October 14, 2010), that is. I also spoke of him in B because he is worth many, many references. He is pretty much considered the father (or is it grandfather?) of fractals. Due to his pursuit of the area of math that has turned into fractal geometry and considering he coined the word fractal, he’s quite the forefather.  There is a joke about his name, Benoit B. Mandelbrot. It is, “what does the B stand for in Benoit B. Mandelbrot?” Congratulations if you got it without an explanation. Not many will (even I had to ask, don’t feel bad). The answer is immediately funny and appropriate if you know that a fractal, in short, is a self similar shape or form that is recursive (repeats) no matter how far you zoom into it. (See also T is for… for another word that refers to this very property *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*.)
MOONHIGH, MARGOT 1942, MARTHIG, MARIO837 – some awesome fractalists I’ve met on DeviantArt.
Mandelbulb3D (MB3D) – is another FREE fractal generating and rendering application that seems to have taken the fractal world by storm. With it, fractalists are able to create images, 3D images, as have never before been produced. They are, of course, based on fractal math, but apparently MB3D is quite user friendly. I have ddown;oaded it, but have not tried it yet. It seems to become quite addictive almost immediately, so I don’t want to forsake all other apps at this time. I have put MB3D on hold in my arsenal for a while.

J is for… JOYOUS

Day 10 of the April 2013 AtoZ Challenge…

J is for….
Julia set – named after French mathematician Gaston Julia, is one of two complementary sets defined from a function in the context of complex dynamics, a topic of mathematics. A relatively small difference in values can create chaotic changes in the nearby functions  in the sequence of iterated function systems. Whereas with the complementary Fatou set (named for Pierre Fatou, another French mathematician) changes in function values create similar and less variable results to the nearby function values, thus creating regular, orderly results from iterated function systems. (I really have no idea what that means, literally, but I interpret it to be the mathematical behaviour of the “regular” Fatou set and the “chaotic” Julia set.) In other words, the Julia set is a specific type of fractals, with certain mathematical properties. I dasten’t go any further, because I would get into complex numbers, real and imaginary and pretty much out of my understanding. Here is a link that may describe it better for you, if you have the math background.

WHAT IS A FRACTAL?

WHAT IS A FRACTAL?

The concept and image are both from the creative Kim Redd, aka :iconbeautifulchaos1: ; with her permission I included it in my book FRACTAL DREAMS and wanted to have absolutely for certain copyright free copy, so I wrote it myself. I am thankful to the many fractalists who have said it’s the best definition they have ever seen!

What is a Fractal is in my book, Fractal Dreams, which is available exclusively at RedmundPro.

Here we are, right in the middle of an A to Z bloghop Challenge… in case you missed it, I am featuring FRACTALS as my theme (what else!?!?). However, that shall certainly NOT interrupt our traditional Friday Feature. Music and all. And as a special treat to my wonderful followers, today’s fractals are all brand spanking new. I’ve been playing around a lot with Fractal Explorer. This site is also chock full of information on fractals. So feast your eyes on some new fractals with a tasty soundtrack…
