E is for…

Welcome to Day 5 of the April 2013 AtoZ Challenge… enjoy…

I may have forgotten to mention my theme – it will be fractals, fractal art, everything fractal up to and including my new book Fractal Dreams! Have a look around my pages and such to see lots more fractals. Also, every Friday I post a FridayFractalFeature (fff, for short) for all to enjoy! Thanks for stopping by and engaging in the A to Z 2013 Challenge! This is my FIRST ever, so I’m pretty excited! So every day I will post a fractal whose title starts with the letter of the day… and perhaps other things fractal related.

E is for….
Element 90 – An amazing fractalist who has created his own software for generating and rendering fractals called Venus, Mars, Saturn (fractal explorers) and Phobos, Terra, Luna and Titan, which are fractal expanders! They are FREE!

D is for….
Digital – most fractals you will see these days are made with the assistance of computers, so not only is the art fractal, mostly it is digital.
Dimensions – Minkowski-Bouligand Dimension or Hausdorff Dimension are two of the most used methods of measuring fractals link.
David Foster Wallace – claims the structure for the first draft of his novel Infinite Jest was based on the Sierpinsky triangle (gasket).
Dsynegrafix – a friend, fellow artist who currently uses Mandelbulb3D (free) to make his excellent fractals in his DA Gallery.

Tuesday (today 4/2/13) is Day 2 of the April 2013 AtoZ Challenge…

B is for….
Buddhakat – why, that’s me, of course. Or, more specifically our family name, the Buddhakats. Our family currently consists of myself – the fractal artist, of the genus felinus humanus (Janet, head cat), Mama – all gray long hair (meow – mother to Mimi) and Mimi, all black short hair (meow – daughter to Mama). They used to be Michelle (Mama) and Miriam (Mimi), but when they moved in they wanted to change their names. So we did. They seem to like their new names just fine!
Book – as in my new book FRACTAL DREAMS currently available at RedmundPro
Benoit – as in Benoit B Mandelbrot, the mathematician for developing a “theory of roughness” in nature. He also coined the word “fractal” and wrote the defining book on the science of fractals, Fractals: Form, Chance and Dimension in 1975. It was translated to English shortly after that.

Howdy folks…Is spring creeping in for you? or is winter shaking his fist in one (or more) last big hurrah? Well, one thing’s for sure, we LOSE an hour this weekend when we spring our clocks forward. I guess that’ll confuse us, if not really bring the warmer climes nearer, eh?

So what’s been going on in your worlds these days? Let’s hear what you’ve been up to… the floor is yours… someone make your day recently? … or ruined it? Witness a Random Act of Kindness? … perform one? Who’s been on your nerves lately? … or who has made you smile just by entering the room?

You know I love to hear your favorite fractals, but I also love hearing about how you’ve been. Like Mimi (cat) had that awful flu everybody’s dealing with – poor thing was sneezin’ and coughin – scared the crap out of me she was so loud! She’s better, now though.

Your turn…

Well, dear Friends and Followers… it seems that my aim is still a bit off… aiming for Friday, I got Saturday morning… I guess that’s not too far off – I blame it on residuals of that nasty-akk virus that brought me down back several days now… that should be the end of it… I HOPE!!!

Been a busy week, but not a lot to talk about! Don’t know how that works out, but that’s my story and I’m stickin’ with it!! Mostly celebrating my birthday – which WAY makes up for being sick!!!
Good thing I pretty much have all the components ready, just haven’t assembled them yet.
So… off we go… (just so you know – I almost got outta bed 3am-ish to publish this, but thought it was a dream, and only dreamed I posted it)!!!

Once again, I hope you have enjoyed this weekend foray into the land of fractals… may your weekend be long (don’t we have another holiday on Monday here in USA?) and full of whatever you want it to be.

PS: I was thinking, since it’s award season and all, maybe I’d do a “best of” fractal show one of these weeks… what do you think? Would you be willing to put in a request for your favorite fractal of all time from the past year? Mayhap I will put together a special edition of the FridayFractalFeature (midweek, sometime) of just what you, my dear friends would like to see… think about it!!!

Good Day, to you all – my friends, followers and foe and unfamiliars…

Happy to see you here, on this bright January Friday. I must admit, I was worried about my van starting up today. Two days ago, temp was 3F and van had sat (ungaraged) 4-5 days in FRIGID temps without being started up. Started up just fine. Then the next day, yesterday, I was all confident and stuff and put the key in… and click, click, click, click… nothing but clicking. I wasn’t sure, but I HOPED it was the temp to blame, which was a balmy -3F. So today, temps like the tropics at 18F… all fingers crossed and toes and everything… put the key in and…  vroom, started up just like there never had even been a thought of the cold. WHEW!!
What a relief – sure can’t afford a new battery or a new starter!!! Didn’t get a long drive in, but our big Russell Sprout brunch on Sunday is far enough the engine will get all lubed and warmed up and battery recharged in a nice long ride to the place. Thank goodness. And can’t wait for the family gathering – it’s at a bowling alley – an old family favorite, bowling!!

How has you week been? Busy? Cold? Long? any special events going on in your world these days, or are you just waiting for that next retail holiday, the red and black one, you know SAINT Valentine’s day? Me – meh. Not interested.

However, I have been somewhat busy, pulling together (STILL) last minute stuff for the print release of RedMond Pro’s launch books on 2/1. I’m pretty excited. No, really! I have such faith in Red, the publisher, I won’t even see a print proof before it goes into production. She has a better eye than me and she knows at least as well as do I, what I want. Press releases, that kind of thing… wonder where those will turn up!?!? Red is the queen of promotion and we are all little novices at her feet hoping to learn a thing or two! Thank goodness she’s on our side! So, probably next week, I’ll be posting that the print version of my book is FINALLY available and you can all rush over… (aaaaahhhhhhh – sigh). Oh and next week I’m gonna be interviewed on M3, hopefully while sipping a nice 4 shot iced venti toffee nut latte (and chewing on the ice), breve and a piece or two of that luscious chocolate bread I think Claret will have baking… mmmm… I’ll post and link to it for sure so you all can see me “on stage” and trembling as the spotlight falls on me!! And remember, there are lots of great books besides mine too!!!

Oh yes, you may have noticed I have a new page up there ↑ called Fractals, Fractals, Fractals. So, what do ya think – is it about fractals? Of course it is! I decided there are so many good informational sites and sources for wonderful knowledge about fractals, even fractals in the news. So, if some of you have wondered where was that link I posted a few months back to that cool article… well this page is dedicated just to that sort of thing… it’ll be a resource for resources. Info, links to various software and/or fractal generating apps, stuff like that – all in one stop shop easy location! So when you get a chance you might like to browse and see what’s there and what’s new. As I will be adding things, I’ll try to remember to post them at the top, which makes finding the new stuff so much easier, doncha know…

What else is new… well I’ve been working with a different fractal generator, Fractal Explorer and produced a lot of new things. Not all today’s will be FE fractals, still have some Apophysis’ ones you haven’t seen (I think). Speaking of fractals, what say we just dive right on in and hang ’em on the wall… Let’s see if you can tell what fractal generator I used for each (3 different apps – only two of three are mentioned in this post, just to make it a little tougher for you)…

Here’s another tune that I could probably sing (in 3 part harmony) in my sleep! I love this song!! The lyrics really rock!

And… well… Eddie’s voice is just to die for (I know, this is a repeat – first one for ages, though and WORTH it)…

Well, how has your week been? Things sorta getting back into a regular rhythm, back to work, no parties every other day and no presents to look forward to?!? Unless, of course you have a birthday upcoming in January. If you do, happy day to all you Capricorns and Aquariae.

And hopefully ol’ man winter is keeping his worst for later (or not at all would be nice)? We’ve been pretty fortunate here in MN with some arctic temps for a few days at a time with some windchills to tune you up, just a little. But, fingers crossed, not that much snow. Don’t get me wrong, I like the snow and all, it’s just the “Snow Emergency” and cleaning off my van that disallow my desire to hibernate until it all goes away!

And next we prepare for (GAHHH!!!) Valentines Day in retail, everything red and black and chocolate popping up everywhere. I repeat! GAAAHHHH!!! And I don’t mean the chocolate!

My younger sis (as I’m the oldest of my siblings, technically they’re all younger) Virgo Gal and her husband Harley Guy are struggling along, waiting for the year to pass since his heart surgery to see if he’ll get put back on the kidney donatee list. He has to do dialysis at least 3 times a week. And he seems to be losing strength. He was always an active and fit guy (you know a HARLEY Guy!! And a sober Harley Guy at that!) but he weighs less than my sister does now, he just under 6 feet, she about 5’5″ and NOT chunky!!
Part of the issue is the VA, and part is that HG is not that eager to be proactive and keep things moving right along. I guess he’s settled into a sort of comfort zone. But really, he’s quite weak, falls asleep at the drop of a hat (with a lit cigarette in hand). Or he stumbles when he arises, hoping he’ll catch his balance before he runs into a wall or something. And he’s not very happy about things at all. I used to be so impressed by his will-to-live, but now he seems to be fading, right before our eyes. I think his year-after-surgery is just about up, so hopefully things will swing back into action. (My sister just wants that trip to Baltimore – where the transplant and prior testing take place. JK!!!)

SAVE-THE-DATE

SAVE-THE-DATE

On the Sunday between the NFC and AFC championships and the Super Bowl, my late dad would treat all his clan – eight siblings and all their offspring – that’s a lot of Russell Sprouts – to a Sunday Brunch at a nearby Holiday Inn. Well, his wife, Scorpio Lady, has decided to resurrect this momentous event this year and I’m very much looking forward to it.. There are so many of us and we are so scattered, this is the one chance we get to get the largest group of us together (except for the outstaters, usually). There’s just nothing like a good old family reunion! Not to mention Scorpio Lady was/is my best ever customer. She commissioned both some “save-the-date” postcards and some invitation/RSVP postcards, both of

which I designed to order using one of my fractals (PartyMode) as the design for them. I was very proud

PARTY MODE- INVITE

PARTY MODE- INVITE

(and she very much liked) the result!! She even mentioned commissioning next year’s holiday cards from me!!!

SO! Enough about me… tell me how’s things are for you…

Oh, and while you think about that, here’s some fractals to keep your eyes occupied…
