Reading this book felt Just like having a conversation with a friend after work… yes, a bit one sided, but Robert’s style is so friendly that with each story or anecdote, he draws me in, so I could become part of the story.

I enjoyed the story separations, which made it easy to stop and start again, reading in little spurts which is often my style.

I love the honest feelings he presented about the not so politically correct guests he had to work with. The stories were told in an easy friendly manner, engaging me in the very experiences he was undergoing!

There were lots of cliches in the book, but that’s the whole point of it. Robert wanted to show the reader that these cliche people really do exist!

And finally, Robert ended with a little of his homespun wisdom on various subjects from comic books, parenting, grocery shopping while hungry, Reality TV, and today’s hero’s for our kids to politics and human nature.

You gotta read this book! It’s warm and friendly, and funny and every point he makes will make you go “Yeah, I’ve always thought that too!”聽 It’s a feel good book in which we can all commiserate about the funny nature of our fellow human beings.

Thanks, Robert (he goes by The Hook on his blog You’ve Been Hooked) for a very entertaining time!

Oh, and for a Canadian, he’s all right in my eyes!

UP is on the UP and UP…

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 This is the only word in the English language

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 that could be a noun, verb, adj, adv, prep.

Read until the end… you’ll laugh.

This two-letter word in English has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that word is “UP.”聽It is listed in the dictionary as an [adv], [prep], [adj], [n] or [v].

It’s easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP?

At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP, and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report?聽 We call UP our friends, brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We 聽lock UP the house and fix UP the old car.

At other times, this little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses.

To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP.

We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.聽 We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP!

To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of聽 UP, look UP the word UP in the dictionary.聽 In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4 of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions.

If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used.聽 It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don’t give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more.

When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP.聽 When the sun comes out, we say it is clearing UP.聽 When it rains,聽the earth soaks it UP..聽 When it does not rain for awhile, things dry UP.聽 One could go on and on, but I’ll wrap it UP, for now. . . my time is UP!

Oh. . . one more thing: What is the first thing you do in the morning and the last thing you do at night?

Did that one crack you UP?

Now I’ll shut UP!

Thanks to my lovely friend Maria C for this fun one…

can you really stop at just one?

6 Design Flaws That Annoy You Every Day (And Why They Exist)

The world’s a frustrating place sometimes, made all the more frustrating by the fact that so many of the annoyances we deal with every day don’t have to be that way. We’ve talked before about scientific reasons behind everyday nuisances, and that’s all well and good. But what happens when the unthinkable happens, and science fails us? What happens when the world is Complete Bullshit, and the only reason for it is human stupidity and selfishness?

Why, Cracked makes a list of it, of course! Below we’ve documented six everyday annoyances that exist for wholly legitimate yet completely infuriating business reasons.

#6. Wrap Rage
Here’s an example of clamshell packaging: You hate it. Everyone hates it. It’s impossible to open by hand, and even with a pair of scissors, massive, hand-shredding chunks of plastic are left sticking out of it at odd angles. It’s the war crime of product packaging, and there’s even a term used to describe the frustration lightbulb wrapped - 173723people experience when opening it: Wrap Rage.

So why, you shout, shaking your bleeding hands at the sky, would anyone in the world design packaging that’s impossible to open?

The Reason: Package Pilferage

To make it impossible to open.

SMILE, You’ve still got your sense of humor!

Some of what comprises this post has been extracted from a recursive email (email I got from a friend who got it from a friend who got it from a friend who got…). All links and attributions are from my own due diligence (ie surfing and searching, with TinEye and without). Not that I want a pat on the back or anything. I just want it clear I didn’t (I wish!!) create any of these pieces and I attributed where possible.聽 I am the Curator. Then I thought it would be fun to add related articles, etc. So I did.

So there you have it. My brain at work.

FYI… (I’ll probably add more links/pings over the next couple days)
